I have this notion in my head that one day I will start a “Black Black and Beautiful™” campaign to empower dark skinned black women with natural hair. I want billboards featuring dark skinned babies, little ladies, teenagers, young women and old women – all with natural hair – to remind / show other dark skinned black women how beautiful we ARE once we accept it and choose to believe the truth – that WE ARE BEAUTIFUL! I want a website that emphasizes this and is filled with advice, tips, tricks and testimonials to help us embrace our natural self.
“A woman who knows that she is beautiful both inside and out is a force to be reckoned with.” – N. Lewis
If we show each other how gloriously blessed we are, that we accept and embrace our blackness, that we are PROUD to be “Black Black and Beautiful™” we will be unstoppable in every aspect of our lives. I was reading that article I mentioned in my last post, “Why Black Men are NOT ATTRACTED to Nappy Haired Black Women” and the author made a valid point. He said,
“There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful, than a woman being unapologetically her natural self; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty. It is not up to us as men to define a woman, her hair, her skin, nor her behavior” – Ebrahim Aseem
I have a tendency to edit my photos if they come out too dark in an effort to lighten them up or choose to take my photos in the bathroom where the lighting is ‘better’ (meaning I come out quite brown!). But I went to the beach with my sister on the weekend and she took some amazing shots of me that were too beautiful to edit. This is the first time I have looked at my images and gloried in my blackness! I mean like sit and stare and admire my blackness! Beautiful Beautiful Black!
It feels so amazing to know that you are 100% comfortable with being you and I simply wish that for every dark skin woman who is “Black Black and Beautiful™” As usual, stay beautiful, stay blessed xo
